Happy Mother's Day
(Me and my Mom on the day of my high school graduation. I cannot wait to see her face when I graduate from UMass.)

Langston Hughes'

'Mother to Son'

Well, son, I'll tell you:
Life for me ain't been no crystal stair.
It's had tacks in it,
And splinters,
And boards torn up,
And places with no carpet on the floor --
Bare.
But all the time
I'se been a-climbin' on,
And reachin' landin's,
And turnin' corners,
And sometimes goin' in the dark
Where there ain't been no light.
So boy, don't you turn back.
Don't you set down on the steps
'Cause you finds it's kinder hard.
Don't you fall now --
For I'se still goin', honey,
I'se still climbin',
And life for me ain't been no crystal stair.

It's May 9th today, Mother's Day. A day that is solely dedicated to the women that have taught us all the lessons we have learned and have paved the way for us to succeed. My mom did not live a fantasy life, in fact it was rough. But she never let that show. She always held her head up high and would strive each day to provide myself and my siblings with a better life. This poem reminded me of my mother and all the memories we have created and shared together. Regardless of how hard things were, she never let that affect us and that has helped me become the strong young man that I am today.

For that, I love you mom. Although while I am away at school I am often disconnected from the world back home, I know that it will pay off in the future. As of now I am focusing on building the foundation that will hold up the rest of my life. My family is the fuel that keeps me going and I hope that I can provide for them, the way they have provided for me.

Happy Mother's Day to all the wonderful women out there. You are the true heroes of our world and your contributions to this world do not go unnoticed.

Thank you.

Thanks for tuning in...
Jose
